Ultrasonography in the Evaluation of Postoperative Check Cyst

Abstract
The postoperative Check Cyst (POCC) is a mucocele or pyocele as a delayed complication many years after surgical intervention in the maxillary sinus. Traditionally radiography is the only noninvasive method for reliable diagnosis of paranasal
sinus
disease. But postoperative plain film are difficult to interpret, since diffruse haziness often obscures fine detail. Although CT is relatively accurate, its radiation and high cost limit its use. Sonography is easy, simple and inexpensive.
Sonography
does not carry the risk of ionizing radiation.
The positive sonography finiding of POCC is defineed as the hypoechoic or anechoic mass with strong posterior wall echo The sensitivity and specificity are 91% and 100% respectively. Routine use of ultrasonography in the evaluation of POCC is
highly
recommaended.
